Our Vision

For the Woodland Learning Facility
Nature’s Nook’s Planning Application is for the creation of a woodland learning facility. The outdoor space will also offer volunteering opportunities for the local community to share and learn skills.
The facility will provide a safe outdoor space where every visitor can attend and enhance their spiritual, mental and physical capabilities, enabling them to improve the conditions of their life.

The Plan

The plan for the buildings involved in the learning facility will be:

A Welcome Centre with four Basecamps. The buildings will be modular containers converted to provide safe, secure space during poor weather. Each Basecamp building will be able to accommodate a group of up to 35. A warm, indoor area providing toilets, a changing area, kitchen area and den for ‘quiet time’. The buildings will be clustered in the southern half of the site.
The plan for the new woodland to the north of the development will involve replanting 1 hectare of native Scottish species. The initiative is being led by Woodland Trust under its “More Woods More Hedges” Campaign, and the planting will include 1400 new trees including Oak, Rowan, Bird Cherry, Hazel and Goat Willow. The Woodland Trust is supporting the applicant’s plans for the woodland as part of a broader commitment to plant one million trees a year over the next decade in the UK.

The impact of this forward-thinking project will be a valuable and inspirational asset for environmental education, with relation to the ambitious climate change pledge the Scottish Government has made. Now more than ever, groups will be looking for safe outdoor spaces. By removing barriers to accessing the outdoors, Nature’s Nook will have a significant positive impact on the lives of visitors and open new opportunities to them.
